The Festival 2019

Festival 2019 follows a proud tradition of unique and almost iconic quality bottles created only for visitors to our Whisky Festival. For this year’s edition, we, as for its predecessors, carefully selected some extra fine casks. Now our whisky is starting to get a little older. Festival 2019 is almost 8 years, some barrels even a little older, which we think you will experience when you get it in the glass.

This whisky is made from 100% peated malt, with full smoky characteristics which is not overpowering, matured in five 200 liter Bourbon barrels for 8.07 years and a 96-liter barrel of freshly charred American oak.

Festival 2019 is a very tasty ambassador for our whisky festival and what High Coast Whisky stands for. Enjoy!

  • The whisky in this barrel was first matured for 3.44 years in the Bourbon barrel and then transferred for a further 3.79 years maturation in new American oak.

    The Festival 2019 contains no artificial colouring and is not chill filtered.

  • 200 liter Bourbon barrels (Quercus Alba), delivered empty direct from Kentucky. The 96 liter American oak cask was built and charred by Kelvin cooperage in Louisville, Kentucky.

    Until October 2014, our casks have matured in a damp warehouse, where they lost slightly more alcohol than expected. Since October 2014 until bottling, the casks have been maturing in a dry environment in warehouse number 3.

    03/09/2019 803 kilos of whisky, with an average strength of 56,14% abv, were emptied into our blending tank. There we added water to reach the desired strength of 54,2% abv.

    The Festival 2019 was bottled on the 04/09/2019 producing 1666 bottles + 155 bottles for sampling at festivals and events.

    We recommend that Festival 2019 is allowed to breathe in the glass for a few moments to reach its peak. Add a few drops of water to help the aromas develop within the glass.

  • Yeast: Fermentis Safwhisky M-1

    Peated malt: Pilsner malt from Castle Maltings in Belgium

    Barely types: Henley, Sébastian

    Process water: From Bålsjön, filtered through sand and carbon filters

    Cooling water: From Ångermanälven

    Batch size: 1200 kg malt / 6300 liter wort

    Included batches: 105A-106B, 205B, 268A-273B

    Average fermentation time: 80 hours in stainless steels washbacks.

    Distilled between: 03/08/2011 – 08/06/2012

    First Cut:
    Peated spirit: 30 minutes head (foreshots)
    Second Cut:
    Peated spirit: 60 % ABV (20°C)

    Age: 7,23 – 8,07 (average: 7,93 years)
    Phenol content PPM: 39 & 43 ppm (average 40 ppm)

The Festival

The Festival is a series of exclusive bottles created as a tribute to our Whisky Festival, which is held annually during the last weekend in June. The Festival can only be purchased by visitors to the Whisky Festival. Each year a new whisky is created and about 1000 bottles are created
