PX

In November 2016, Box PX, a whisky matured in the most powerful sherry variety Pedro Ximenez, was launched. The whisky was originally designed to meet the need for this style of whisky from the Taiwanese market. The issue was also sold to a limited extent in other markets.

Box PX is a completely unpeated, dark and sweet whisky made of 100% Pilsner malt. The whisky has taken lots of character from the heavy Spanish sherry casks. Originally, the casks came from the American bourbon industry (Jack Daniels and Heaven Hill), who exported them to the sherry producer Miguel Martin. Box PX quickly became much sought after and difficult to obtain in Europe.

  • 100% unpeated whisky which is first matured in 200-litre bourbon casks for 4.13 years before being finished in 55-litre casks of American oak which have contained PX sherry for a further 12 months.

    Box PX is neither chill-filtered nor contains colouring.

  • 200-liter bourbon casks originally contained Jack Daniels and Heaven Hill. 55-litre PX casks supplied by Miguel Martin, Spain.

    Until October 2014 the cask was stored in a damp warehouse, losing some its alcohol strength. From October 2014 until August 2016, the cask was stored in a drier environment in Box warehouse number 3.

    On the 9th of November 2016, the casks were emptied into a blending vat and the alcohol content adjusted to a pre-decided 56.7% at the time of bottling.

    PX was bottled on the 10th of November 2016 in a series of 1507 bottles.

    We recommend allowing Box PX to rest in the glass for a short while before drinking. Feel free to add a few drops of water to enhance the aromas in the glass.

    Process water: From Lake Bålsjön, filtered through sand and coal filters

    Batch size: 1.2 tons malt

    Average yeasting time: 80 hours in stainless steel washbacks

    Distilled between 22nd June 2011 and 5th July 2011

    First cut of the run: 13 minutes head (foreshots)

    Second cut of the run: 67% ABV (20°C)
