BERG – is a sherry matured whisky which has the same natural colour as the Nordingrå granite which can be seen protruding the dramatic landscape of the High Coast. The casks have previously held the flavoursome Pedro Ximénez sherry.
Origins is a series where we celebrate our heritage. We have embraced our location, history and geography and created four whiskies that reflect these aspects. The Origins quartet is released in selected Systembolaget stores as well as in the ordering range and in selected international markets. Berg is so far our most awarded whisky in international shows.

Berg consists of 100% unpeated whisky which was first matured in first fill Bourbon barrels and then finished in first fill sherry casks, previously used for the maturation on Pedro Ximénez (PX) sherry.
First matured in Bourbon barrels for 3.61-4.88 years then transferred to PX barrels for final maturation between 0.67-2.31 years.
– Ninety nine, 55 liter casks 6.61-6.62 years (matured in bourbon barrels for 4.67 years)
– Seven, 250 liter casks, 5.93 years (matured in bourbon barrels for 3.61 years)
– Three, 200 liter casks, 6.31 years (matured in bourbon barrels for 5.63 years)
– Three, 120 liter casks, 5.56 years (matured in bourbon barrels for 4.88 years)
Berg contains no artificial colouring and is non chill-filtered
200 liter Bourbon barrels (Quercus Alba), delivered empty direct from Kentucky
Sherry casks made from American oak and filled with sherry in Spain.
PX Casks of 120 and 200 liters matured the sherry for 15 years with very old PX.
55 Liter casks were filled for approximately 12 months while 250 liter casks were filled on three occassions during 2,5 years.
Until October 2014, our casks have matured in a damp warehouse, where they lost slightly more alcohol than expected. Since October 2014 until bottling, the casks have been maturing in dry environments in warehouses 2 & 3.
Between 13/09/2019 to 16/09/2019, 112 PX casks holding 6994 kilos of whisky, with an abv of 59.74%, were emptied into our blending tank. 1550 kilos of water was added to reach the desired alcohol strength of 50% abv. The whisky was bottled in the morning of 17/09/2019 at 08.30.
We recommend that Berg is allowed to breathe in the glass for a few moments to reach its peak. Add a few drops of water to help the aromas develop within the glass.
Yeast: Fermentis Safwhisky M-1
Unpeated malt: Pilsner malt from Vikingmalt in Halmstad.
Barely types: Rosalina, Sebastian, Tipple, Barke, Shandy, Quench, Propino, Tam Tam och Columbus
Process water: From Bålsjön, filtered through sand and carbon filters
Cooling water: From Ångermanälven
Batch size: 1200 & 1250 kg malt / 6300 liter wort

Average fermentation time: 80 hours in stainless steels washbacks.
