2nd Step Collection 03
The third and final edition in the 2nd Step Collection series is a smoky combination of bourbon barrels with top notes of new American and Hungarian oak.
2nd Step 03 was released in the spring of 2017 and was the first whisky we presented with more than five years of maturation, which is evident in maturity and character. It was also the last edition from Box with the first design generation of packaging and label.
88% of the whisky included is peated.
67,3 % is 5,53 year old peated whisky from 200 liter 1st fill Bourbon barrels.
8,7 % is 5,51 year old peated whisky from 135 liter 1st fill Bourbon barrels.
4,8 % is 5,22 year old unpeated whisky from 85 liter medium toasted new American oak
4,9 % is 5,2 year old unpeated whisky finished for 25 months in 96 liter charred American oak.
2,4 % is 5,84 year old peated whisky finished for 25 months in 96 liter charred American oak.
7,3 % is 5,25 year old peated whisky finished for 25 months in 96 liter charred American oak.
2,3 % is 5,34 year old peated whisky from 55 liter medium toasted new Hungarian oak.
2,4 % is 5,34 year old unpeated whisky from 55 liter medium toasted new American oak.
The 2nd Step Collection 03 contains no artificial colouring and is non chill-filtered.
200 liter Bourbon barrels delivered direct from Kentucky. 110 and 130 liter casks are made from Bourbon barrels by Speyside Cooperage in Scotland.
American oak cask are made by Kelvin Cooperage in the U.S.
Hungarian oak casks are made in Hungary.
Until October 2014, our casks have matured in a damp warehouse, where they lost slightly more alcohol than expected. Since October 2014 until bottling, the casks have been maturing in a dry environment in warehouse number 3.
24/02/2017 6455 kilos of whisky, with an average strength of 59,71% abv, were emptied into our blending tank. There we added water to reach the desired strength of 51,3% abv.
2nd Step Collection 03 was bottled between 27/02/2017 and 01/03/2017 giving us 8291 bottles.
We recommend that 2nd Step Collection 03 is allowed to breathe in the glass for a few moments to reach its peak. Add a few drops of water to help the aromas develop within the glass.

Unpeated malt: Pilsner malt from Vikingmalt in Halmstad.
Peated malt: Pilsner malt from Castle Maltings in Belgium, peated to a phenolic level 31, 39, 43 from Scotland

Process water: From Bålsjön, filtered through sand and carbon filters
Cooling water: From Ångermanälven
